Games Are Gambling With Childrens Data

Despite clear age rules many games are ignoring the fact that children are using their services. Children have a right to digital privacy and protection against advertisments (especially personalised) but they are not protected at all in most games. This report from IDA and DataEthics.eu, is a first look into GameTech, Data and Children.

The Report: Addressing Ethical Dilemmas in AI: Listen to the Engineers

September 2020, engineers from across Europe and beyond meet at a hackathon organised by the Association of Nordic Engineers (ANE), the Data Ethics ThinkDoTank (DataEthics.eu), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and researchers from the Department of Computer Science at the University of Copenhagen to find solutions to ethical challenges in AI.

Data Ethics In Public Procurement

This white paper from 2020 provides a detailed map for public procurers to choose AI-based services and solutions that put data ethics, democracy and fundamental rights first. It is an initial step towards creating a standardized framework for the questions and considerations public procurement processes should include to adopt trustworthy AI and reward the European development of it.

The whitepaper was funded by Luminate.

Go the the whitepaper’s overview page to get just the recommendations or executive summary.

DataEthics – The New Competitive Advantage

The book Data Ethics – The New Competitive Advantage published in 2016 by Gry Hasselbalch and Pernille Tranberg was one of the early books to describe not only the privacy implications of the commercial exploitation of big data, but the broader social and ethical implications. It pictured the emerging movement of the mid 2010s to take back control of our data from powerful big tech Silicon Valley actors.

It was the first book to use the term “data ethics” and describe it in detail. Its crucial contribution was its constructive approach that sought out the alternative engineering and company practices.
