The Nordic and Baltic High-Level Forum on AI Readiness at the Danish Parliament

The Nordic and Baltic High-Level Forum on AI Readiness at the Danish Parliament was held Friday 30th of August with more than 140 participants and five ministers from the Nordic-Baltic region.

At the forum, the establishment of a Nordic Centre for Responsible AI was announced. This was based on the recommendations of the Nordic Ethical AI Group (see report with recommendations)

DataEthics.eu’s co-founder Gry Hasselbalch was a member of the Nordic Ethical AI group and participated at the forum. She said:

“The centre with a strategy on responsible AI was something we worked very determined to have included in the recommendations. I do wish for the future that the concerns raised following the forum regarding the involvement of academia and civil society will be addressed at a political level. We need a genuine multistakeholder approach equally inclusive of the Nordic AI industry and Nordic academia and civil society. We also need to have confidence in the Nordic AI ecosystem and keep an arm’s length to big tech conglomerate/general purpose AI models’ influence and agenda setting. The EU has done great in that regard in the last couple of years. Changing the narrative that legislation inhibits innovation. Let’s follow that example and show how strong the Nordics are in responsible/social innovation. “
