News. The recent terror attacks in among others Paris and San Bernadino have put even more pressure on tech companies to allow access to their user data. Specifically, tech companies are asked to provide a backdoor for law enforcement to their encrypted information. A number of companies have rejected that notion, most prominently Apple, arguing that a backdoor would ultimately also provide access to the bad guys. However, one of the leading manufacturers of smartphones, Blackberry, is now blasting Apple for its refusal to help law enforcement in specific cases. John Chen, CEO of the Canadian company, writes “the tech sector bears a dual responsibility, to protect consumer privacy zealously and to cooperate with lawful requests for investigative access.”
