Dont&#8217;s<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Drop\u00a0<strong>automatic renewal<\/strong>\u00a0of a service. Most people want to actively chose if they want to renew, and doing it automatically destroys trust among those who did not want to continue. Differentiate yourself from all others and tell why you do not use automatic renewal, but, of course, make it very easy to actively renew<\/li>\n<li>Drop\u00a0<strong>&#8216;Sneak into basket&#8217;-tactic<\/strong>\u00a0meaning sneaking stuff into a shopping basket and making it hard to remove it again<\/li>\n<li>Make it easy\u00a0<strong>to leave you<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; it really enhances trust.<\/li>\n<li>Use\u00a0<strong>opt-in instead of opt-out<\/strong>, for instance when people sign up for newsletters. Don&#8217;t sign up people automatically.<\/li>\n<li>Be\u00a0<strong>honest in your offers:<\/strong>\u00a0&#8216;Only two rooms left&#8217; should only be used, when there are two rooms left.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Don&#8217;t make your customers compromise the privacy of their friends.<\/strong>\u00a0LinkedIn insists that you should get your friends to sign up for LinkedIn by asking for all your contacts and then automatically send the offer for all your friends. Very unethical and LinkedIn also had to pay a huge compensation in a class action suit.<\/li>\n<li>Make it very clear and easy to find who is behind your website, where is your headquarter and how to get in contact with you.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid designing human-like chatbots &#8211; it is manipulative<\/li>\n<li>Avoid designing psychofantic chatbots &#8211; it is manipulative<\/li>\n<li>Remember most humans don&#8217;t want to talk to chatbots but to humans.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How to Distinguish Between Tools&#8217; Trustworthiness<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Where is the company&#8217;s <strong>legal headquarter<\/strong>? (In the EU, Switzerland, Canada, Norway, Japan, India and South Korea, for example, laws are made to protect humans)<\/li>\n<li>What does the company <strong>live from<\/strong>? Selling product or services you have to pay for with money or data in disguise of &#8216;free services&#8217;?<\/li>\n<li>How about the\u00a0<strong>privacy policy.<\/strong>\u00a0Do you understand it or is it so long and complicated that you cannot even understand it yourself?<\/li>\n<li>Does it<strong>\u00a0sell data to third-parties?\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Is it\u00a0<strong>honest<\/strong>\u00a0about the data it collects? Compare it with the data they will have to need for their service?<\/li>\n<li>Does the company have a\u00a0<strong>privacy-seal<\/strong>\u00a0like the German Europrise or American Trustee? (not widespread yet but will be in the wake of the new EU data regulation i 2018)<\/li>\n<li>How does the company stand at different\u00a0<strong>ranking services\u00a0<\/strong>on privacy like Ranking Digital Rights, TOSDR, TermsOfConditions and Electronic Frontier Foundation&#8217;s various rankings.<\/li>\n<li>Can you see\u00a0<strong>who is behind a website<\/strong>, and how to get in contact with them?<\/li>\n<li>Can the users interact with each other? What\u00a0<strong>do they say<\/strong>\u00a0about the product or service?
